Hello Fall, Hello Colds and Flu. It seems that Kleenex sales start to climb this time of the year. As we transition into cooler temperatures, this is a good reminder that infection prevention begins with good hand hygiene. Kelly Wente is our JMHS Infection Preventionist and Lab Manager. She said that “cases of COVID-19 are still out there, and teaching our youth at a young age that good hand washing is important is far more effective than most other methods. Just one touch of a common household item such as door knobs or tv remotes can yield viruses, bacteria, and other germs.” Another reminder is that fall is when the annual flu and COVID-19 vaccines are typically given. These are also good ways to prevent acute illness or build immunity. If you feel sick, remember to stay home, stay hydrated, and rest. Let’s all make a point to have a healthy autumn season.
