Ever since elementary school, Dr. Ayaz Virji has had a passion for becoming a physician. He was further inspired when he had the privilege of accompanying his uncle, a doctor, on his rounds and seeing the impact he had on the lives of his patients.
Now Dr. Virji has been a family medicine physician for 20 years—nine of those years at Johnson Memorial. He considers it a privilege and an honor to provide care for family medicine patients who trust and rely on him.
Dr. Virji also specializes in providing non-surgical medical treatment for those with obesity concerns. In obesity medicine, bringing about lasting change is 80% knowledge and 20% effort. As the weight goes down, patients will become healthier—not only currently, but also later in life. With obesity medicine, changes in lifestyle and medication, cognitive changes, and nutrition are a part of individualized treatment plans that are based on metabolism, insulin sensitivity, and other factors.
“At Johnson Memorial, we have an excellent balance of maintaining and strengthening our small-community relationships, while providing advanced-level care, such as bedside ultrasounds and joint replacement programs,” said Dr. Virji. “We want to fill gaps where they exist in medicine by offering world-class, dignified healthcare. Our patients are not just a number—personalized access to care for each individual is what sets JMHS apart.”
When Dr. Virji is not providing care for patients, he enjoys spending time with his family and playing tennis with his daughter.
