JMHS staff was recently trained to use the ceiling lifts in the replacement Care Center. Four ceiling lift systems have been installed in the new location; two in each neighborhood.
Ceiling lifts are used for resident transfers from chair to bed re-positioning, ambulation, and occasional movements. The lifts allow residents to be moved around the entire room and into the attached bathroom.
Ceiling lift systems have been shown to help reduce anxiety, uncertainty, and discomfort when repositioning or lifting a resident. They also help to alleviate staff injuries associated with lifting.
“We are excited to have four in-room ceiling lifts in our new care center,” said Amanda Redepenning, Care Center DON. “The ceiling lifts allow residents to be moved safely throughout the room. They provide safe handling of the resident as well as promote safety for our employees.”
While there are many benefits to installing ceiling lifts the upfront expense prevents most healthcare facilities from using them. The success of the JMHS Foundation Caring for our Community fundraising campaign allowed JMHS to add the ceiling lifts to the building project.
