Pelvic Floor Therapy Lunch & Learn Draws Community Interest at JMHS

On Tuesday, July 15, Johnson Memorial Health Services (JMHS) welcomed 33 community members and staff to an educational Lunch & Learn titled “Empower Your Body: Learn the Benefits of Pelvic Floor PT”. The session was held from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. in the JMHS Chapel and led by Bonnie Will, PT, DPT, ATR, Physical Therapist and Rehab Manager.
The event focused on raising awareness about pelvic floor dysfunction, an issue that affects both women and men but is often misunderstood or left untreated. Attendees learned how pelvic floor muscles act as a core “foundation” for the body, supporting organs such as the bladder, uterus, and bowel.
Topics covered included:
- Signs and symptoms of pelvic floor issues include frequent urination, constipation, painful intercourse, and pelvic pain.
- The difference between overactive and underactive pelvic floor muscles.
- Treatment options include pelvic floor physical therapy, lifestyle and dietary modifications, and toileting posture.
- The importance of early intervention and personalized care.

“We want people to know there’s help available right here at JMHS, for what can often be an overlooked or sensitive topic,” said Bonnie Will, PT, DPT. “Pelvic health is vital for overall well-being, and treatment is always personalized, private, and patient centered.”
The event highlighted JMHS’s expanding capabilities in rehabilitation services with specialized pelvic floor therapy. Will and her team aim to offer community residents high-quality, compassionate care close to home, reducing the need to travel to distant metro centers for specialized services.
