For the past six months, JMHS has been preparing for the upgrade to our new Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system. The staff has worked diligently with Epic to help customize our new EMR platform. So far, patients have not noticed the behind-the-scenes actions of hospital and clinic staff working on meeting important build timelines. However, as we move closer to the November 5 go-live date, you may notice some interruptions as follows:
Last week in-person training started for our medical providers. During training, the providers are split into different groups, so the clinic and hospital are always covered. While we are still taking appointments, this means your preferred provider may not be able to see you on a designated training day.
Monday, October 31 through November 4, is the dress rehearsal, where departments will begin using the Epic EMR system. Epic trainers will be on-site to help guide staff and answer questions. We anticipate clinic appointments taking slightly longer during this time and for several weeks after our November 5 go-live date.
After November 5, we will begin pushing out “MyChart” to our patients. The upgraded patient portal through “My Chart” provides quick access to view health information, request prescription refills, schedule appointments, have telehealth visits, communicate with your medical provider, and even pay your bill. JMHS plans to hold in-person sessions to help patients navigate our new portal.
The move to Epic EMR will improve efficiency and communication for our medical providers, staff, and patients. However, the Epic software platform is only available to large hospitals. Therefore, JMHS purchased the EMR system through CentraCare. JMHS remains an independent healthcare facility and is only working with CentraCare to make this important upgrade to our EMR system.
JMHS will continue to provide important updates to our patients. For the latest Epic EMR updates, visit our website at www.jmhsmn.org.
