October is breast cancer awareness month. Thankfully, discussing breast health and the importance of scheduling your Mammogram is getting easier. Breast cancer is personal to me. My mom, aunt, grandmother, and some good friends have had the unfortunate experience of battling this disease. Early detection did help them extend their lives through their battles with the disease, and I am very grateful that we have the technology we do today. Breast cancer can present in ANYONE, so this isn’t just a public service announcement for women. The good news is that early detection lowers the death rates due to this disease. We can also reduce our risk by recognizing factors that may increase your risk, such as being overweight, regularly consuming alcohol, not practicing self-exams, or getting your annual Mammogram.
JMHS has state-of-the-art technology, including 3D mammography, to aid early detection. We offer this important preventative exam Monday – Friday with late appointments on Mondays and Wednesdays. So, hey please don’t postpone that Mammogram and schedule yours today at 320-769-4393.
