Don’t Poo Poo It
March is colorectal cancer awareness month. One may say, I saved the best blog for last this month (or maybe not?) Given the recent announcement from the U.K. Royal family that King Charles and Princess Kate are both battling cancer, it seems timely that we talk about Colorectal Cancer. Although the public does not know what form of cancer Princess Kate is undergoing, anyone undergoing cancer treatment knows that it is VERY scary! In both cases, it seems that the cancer was caught early and thus a full recovery is likely. Colorectal cancer remains one of the most common cancers. The American Cancer Society estimates that 152,810 people in the U.S. will be diagnosed with colorectal cancer in 2024, and 53,010 will die from the disease. The number of people diagnosed has steadily declined since the mid-1980s due to increased screening and changing lifestyles. Colorectal cancer screening is recommended for people 45 years of age and older. Testing can be in the form of a stool sample test kit or a colonoscopy. Take measures to prevent this cancer by getting your screening today! Cancer doesn’t care if you have a title or not. You can obtain a testing kit or schedule a colonoscopy by contacting your primary provider at 320-769-4323.
