Johnson Memorial Health Services hosted “Ladies Night Out” event on Friday, October 28 from 5:00-8:00 pm at the Dawson VFW. The free event was attended by women from surrounding communities with the first 100 attendees receiving a goody bag. All attendees enjoyed a chili bar with both regular tomato based and white chicken chili, cornbread and mini cheesecakes.
Breakout sessions started at 5:30 pm with “Your Best Selfie” presented by Bonnie Will, Physical Therapist. She discussed the importance health benefits of good posture and her partner, Erika Emmons, Occupational Therapist, demonstrated simple stretches and exercises that can be done at home to help improve your posture.
Mikkel Conover, RN & EMT presented at 6:00pm on “Your Best Response.” She demonstrated the proper techniques to perform CPR. Many attendees were surprised to learn that the depth and force needed to properly perform CPR can break their sternum. It is important to push hard and fast compressing the chest two inches in at 100 beats per minute. Adult and Infant CPR training manikins were available for everyone to practice.
At 6:30 pm, Molly McShane, MS, Health and Wellness Coach presented “Your Best Life.” She discussed how mindful meditation can help you feel better, reduce stress, and enjoy life a little more. She provided a wonderful handout with tips and websites to help begin mediating. She even led attendees through two different forms of mediation.
The keynote address began at 7:00 pm and featured Lanelle Vasichek, founder and author of “Celebrate the Mommy Milestones.” Lanelle presented “Find & Celebrate Your Best Day Ever Moments.” Lanelle reminded us how important it is to chisel out time for you, laugh more, and have more fun in your day. She reminded attendees of how important the gift to be present is and remembering to find quality time.
The event ended at 8:00 pm with the announcement of the door prize winners. Joyce Nikolaisen was the big winner of the mini-makeover door prize. The mini-maker included; $25 to Monica’s Apparel & Accessories donated by Monica’s; an Express Facial donated by Musarrat Virji; a Women’s Haircut at Lavish donated by Lavish Salon; $50 in Dawson Chamber Bucks, a Full Body Massage and a Personal Trainer Session donated by Johnson Memorial Health Services.
