Wound Care

The skin makes up a total area of approximately 20 square feet, making it the largest body organ. It has a lot of essential functions, including temperature regulation and sensation. When the skin breaks down or experiences trauma, it can lead to wounds.

Proper wound care is important to help prevent infections and other complications, and it can also help speed up the healing process with less scarring. If not treated properly, infected wounds can lead to infection in the bloodstream and even the bone, which can lead to amputation. By keeping continual attention on the wound dressings and bandages, the risk for infection and other complications is greatly decreased.

Wound care can only be directed by a person that is certified. Amanda Paradis, APRN is a certified wound care specialist and is able to develop care plans to treat chronic wounds or severe injuries that require medical attention. Even if you’ve begun treatment outside of JMHS, she is able to take over your wound care locally. Amanda works with our patients to create an ultimate healing environment unique to their needs.
