Positron Emission Tomography/Computed Tomography (PET/CT)

PET/CT combines information about body function from a PET exam with the anatomy information from a CT exam in one single exam. It is used to detect cellular function to help diagnose problems earlier. This cellular information is combined with the anatomic information to show metabolic changes and exactly where they are occurring in the body.

For the PET portion of the exam, you will receive a injection of radioactive material and be asked to wait for one hour while the material distributes in your body. During the exam, you will lie very still on a comfortable table the will move through the scanner. Exam times may vary from 20-45 minutes depending on what we are looking for. Plan to spend 2-3 hours here total.
