The Dawson Clinic is staffed by experienced physicians and nurse practitioners. Together they form a team of top-notch professionals dedicated to providing quality medical care to the hospital district. The clinic has 11 exam rooms, one procedure room, a centralized work-station, and direct access laboratory and radiology imaging.
Family medicine services provided at the clinic include care for chronic diseases, acute illnesses and injuries, prenatal care, pediatrics, gynecology, preventive care, and minor emergencies. Minor surgical procedures include laceration repair, skin biopsies, mole removals, abscess drainage, and bedside ultrasound. The practitioners welcome all ages of patients and enjoy getting to know the families in the area.
In addition, specialty services offered by outreach providers are housed in the Dawson Clinic. Specialty care offered includes cardiology, general surgery, orthopedics, urology, obstetrics, pulmonology, oncology, and podiatry. After hours, weekend, and holiday emergency care coverage is provided by the clinic providers on a rotating basis through the hospital.
The Boyd Community Health Center is a satellite clinic of Johnson Memorial Health Services (JMHS) and is staffed by JMHS providers. It has three exam rooms, a lab, and nurse station. A similar scope of family medicine services is offered in Boyd as in the Dawson Clinic. Specialty care and services are referred to Dawson in close collaboration with your Boyd provider. Appointments can be scheduled by calling (320) 855-2290, Monday through Friday, during regular business hours. Same-day appointments welcome based on availability.
Establishment of the Boyd Community Health Center is a result of collaborative planning efforts between local organizations and state and federal agencies. Johnson Memorial Health Services, the City of Boyd, the Minnesota Department of Health, the United States Department of Agriculture, the Southwest Minnesota Foundation, and the Lac qui Parle Health Network were all involved in the project.
The JMHS bariatric clinic is housed on the main Dawson Clinic campus and offers specialty treatment for obesity, diabetes, and metabolic syndrome. Dr. Ayaz Virji who is board certified in obesity medicine, clinical nutrition, and family medicine is the clinic director and main provider. In addition, Lindsay Ourada (certified dietician) and Jordan Stratmoen, LPN also serve as part of the bariatric team. Together, they offer world-class, compassionate care to patients struggling with excess weight and its medical consequences. The clinic has an FDA approved Reevue® indirect calorimeter which accurately measures an individual’s metabolic rate. Treatment is highly individualized to each patient and includes complete bariatric exam, metabolic testing, screen for medication-induced weight gain, individualized dieting program, appropriate use of obesity medication when needed, and long-term behavioral and cognitive changes. Patients are seen on Wednesdays.
